Postbac Premed Program student Giancarlo Barrios reflects on his journey to the program and the importance of bringing mental health resources to underserved communities. 

GS is pleased to announce that 17 alumni were recently nominated to join the Board of the GS Alumni Association (GSAA). With 40 members representing class years that span four decades, the Board strives to enhance the GS experience for alumni from the beginning of their journey as students throughout their lives as members of the worldwide Columbia community.

Registration is open to all students for the fall 2021 six week zero-point workshop in Narrative Medicine; GS UN0007, Section 001, Call Number 18896 - "Narrative Medicine Workshop."

Throughout the academic year, GS Student Life, the Dean of Students Office, and the Postbac Premed Program Office host a variety of events for the GS community in which Student Life volunteers may be involved.

Marin Minamiya is the youngest person to complete the Explorers Grand Slam, which involves reaching the highest peaks on seven continents and skiing to the North and South Poles. As a GS student, she hopes to apply her adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit in new ways.

Students are invited to apply for research assistant opportunities with The Earth Institute at Columbia University. Participating students will focus on projects related to sustainable development and the environment with distinguished faculty and researchers at the cutting edge of this burgeoning field.

The Fall 2021 incoming class comprises a diverse group of students. Below, a few of them share their stories, highlighting their experiences and backgrounds before coming to GS to now—all of it culminating in their enrollment at Columbia University.

Columbia University has partnered with national nonprofit Warrior-Scholar Project (WSP) to host a Humanities Academic Boot Camp from August 1-6.

The School of General Studies at Columbia University and Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health have established a Dual BA-MPH Degree Program Program that will fast-track world-class training for students pursuing public health careers.

Andrew Satz '15GS, '18SEAS is the founder of EVQLV, which uses data science to tackle some of healthcare’s major challenges. An ambitious alumnus, he reflects on his GS experience and discusses the future implications of his business.

Students are invited to participate in the upcoming Summer Workshop Series (Tues., July 20 – Mon., Aug. 2). These virtual workshops are an opportunity to refresh and build skills, assess personal growth, and plan for success.

Students are invited to apply to The Beyond the Bars Fellowship, a program that offers interdisciplinary leadership development towards working for social change.

Pritika Swarup’s ’21GS journey has been anything but traditional. Having graduated this past spring with a degree in financial economics, Swarup is learning from her past experiences, investing in herself, and preparing to take the beauty industry by storm with her new skincare brand, Prakti.

This year’s Columbia University Medical School Fair saw the largest attendee turnout in its history for the traditionally one-day on-campus event, that instead spanned over the course of several weeks in the Spring 2021 semester and allowed students to engage in more one-on-one conversations with prospective medical schools and programs.
