Educational Assistance Stipend

The GS Educational Assistance Stipend provides limited financial assistance to currently enrolled General Studies students facing sudden, and unforeseen financial hardship due to emergencies or unexpected events. This funding is intended to help with urgent, essential expenses not already accounted for in the standard cost of attendance, such as emergency travel, critical medical needs, or other unexpected personal situations.

Students who wish to be considered for support must first speak with their GS Educational Financing Counselor, GS Academic Advisor, or a member of the GS Wellness Team. Appointments with the GS Wellness Team, your Academic Advisor, or Educational Financing Counselor can be scheduled through the GS Student Success Portal. A counselor will then provide guidance on the next steps to apply for emergency funding. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, only after other financial resources have been explored. Applying does not guarantee funding, and awards are prioritized based on need. The GS Success Team aims to respond within one to two business days.

Stipend amounts vary depending on individual circumstances and availability of funding, with the average award being approximately $600. Please note that, per federal regulations, stipends may be considered taxable income. Students who are not U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens may have a portion of their stipend withheld for tax purposes. For more information, please visit the University’s website regarding stipends

The Educational Assistance Stipend is intended for one-time emergency needs. If your financial circumstances have changed more broadly or you are seeking increased ongoing aid, you may be eligible to submit an Institutional Aid Appeal
