Students From Across Columbia Attend 2023 Medical School Fair
Nearly 40 medical schools and healthcare programs were represented at the 2023 Medical School Fair.
On Saturday, February 4, hundreds of students gathered in Lerner Hall to attend the 2023 Medical School Fair. Hosted by the Postbac Premed Student Council and the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program, the fair gave students from Columbia University, Barnard College, and other schools in the New York Metro area the opportunity to speak with representatives from nearly 40 medical schools and healthcare programs.
Not only was it a moment for students to truly connect with deans and representatives, but it also felt like a deeper sense of community was formed.
Returning to an in-person format after last year's successful virtual event, representatives talked to students about the merits of their programs and answered questions about the complex admission process.
"It was really important for our team to be able to provide a welcoming, in-person experience for students and our visiting schools/program members after two years,” said Olivia Anakwe, Vice President of Medical School Fair Operations.
The Admissions Deans Panel featured advice from Deans of various medical schools, including the Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Tufts University School of Medicine, and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Representatives answered questions about the admissions process, interview preparation, and other attributes they seek in applicants.
“Not only was it a moment for students to truly connect with deans and representatives, but it also felt like a deeper sense of community was formed among pre-med/pre-health students,” said Anakwe.
This year, events for prospective medical school students continue throughout February and March. A series of virtual panels will provide students with the opportunity to hear from expert panelists on topics ranging from medical school admissions and diversity, equity, and inclusion to school fit, global and climate health in medicine, the residency program match process, and more.
Information about the 2024 Medical School Fair will be published on the GS website in the coming months.
