Position Description
GS Orientation Leaders (OLs) serve as representatives of the School of General Studies, working with a diverse team of student leaders to support GS staff in the execution of Orientation events while fostering a welcoming community by sharing their experiences at GS and Columbia with incoming students. Upon the conclusion of Orientation and the satisfactory completion of duties, Orientation Leaders will receive $100 in their CU Flex account.
Responsibilities include:
- Serving as a representative of the Columbia University School of General Studies
- Supporting GS staff to aid in the execution of Orientation events
- Overseeing and supporting a cohort of incoming students (OL Group)
- Sending new students an introduction email that highlights meetings throughout the week (email drafts will be shared with you)
- Serving as a mandatory reporter for any instances of sexual violence during the week of Orientation
Time Commitment
- Orientation Leaders are required to attend all of the following programs:
- Orientation Leader Training: Day One & Day Two are mandatory.
- Day One : Thurs., August 27, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
- Day Two :Fri., August 28, , 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Orientation Week: Mon., August 31- Sun., September 6
- Mandatory Programs: Mon., August 31 , 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. & Tues., September 1, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Speed Meeting & Pizza Party: Tues., September 1, 6 - 8 p.m.
- In addition to the events above, OLs are required to sign up for at least 5 additional events during the week, including one evening or weekend program.
