Candidate Statements

Candidate statements are a brief description of the position you are interested in and your qualifications (approximately 150-200 words). The candidate statement and a headshot will be included in the electronic ballot for voting purposes. 

Candidates are allowed to run for up to two positions. Please note that some positions may involve significant time commitments. For more information about a specific position, you are welcome to contact the individuals provided per position. 

New Member Commitments

If elected, new E-board members will be expected to attend the following events:

• Inaugural Combined E-Board Meeting (via Zoom): Sun., March 19, 9–10 p.m.
• Handoff Meeting (via Zoom): Scheduled in coordination with current sitting E-Board members
• Postbac Premed Program Class Day: Fri., May 12

Open Positions

All members of the E-board work together to represent the PPSC and Postbac Premed community for school-wide initiatives. 

• President: Serves as the head of the PPSC; chairs the PPSC E-board meetings; consults with the E-board to set annual agenda; and supports PPSC vice presidents and the various committees.

• Senior Vice President: Assists the president in the fulfillment of their duties; collects and reviews each committee’s semester plans; manages the training of the next incoming E-board; and supports the Medical School Fair planning committee.

• Vice President of Communications: Drafts and sends weekly email newsletters detailing pre-health-related events and opportunities to postbac students; manages PPSC website and social media accounts.

• Vice President of Finance: Prepares and maintains PPSC Executive Board and committee budgets; submits financial transaction forms on behalf of committees.

• Vice President of Community Outreach: Organizes and hosts events related to community service and volunteer opportunities with external organizations and charities.

• Vice President of Professional Development: Organizes and hosts events aimed to develop healthy study habits, strengthen application writing skills, share medical school search resources, and prepare students for a career in healthcare.

• Vice President of Medical Specialties: Organizes and hosts events related to specific medical fields (i.e. primary care, emergency medicine, surgery, pediatrics, oncology, women’s health, psychiatry, etc.)

• Vice President of Social Events: Organizes and hosts events aimed at fostering social connections and individual well-being within the premed community.

• Vice President of Medical School Fair Operations: Plans logistics of the Medical School Fair such as ordering supplies and food, meeting with the administrative team to discuss use of space, and managing volunteers; may also appoint 2-3 Chief Volunteers to assist with Fair tasks.

• Vice President of Medical School Fair Outreach: Works alongside the VP of Medical School Fair Operations, GS Advisor to the PPSC, and Postbac Deans to plan, organize, and host the annual Medical School Fair; communicates with personnel from invited institutions and handles logistical needs; is the primary student liaison and contact for the Fair.

Eligibility

To be eligible to run for the PPSC Executive Board, you must:

1. Be a Postbaccalaureate Premedical student within the School of General Studies in good standing with the GS Dean of Students and Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program Offices
2. Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25
3. Have one (1) completed semester with satisfactory grades by the end of the Spring 2023 term

Note: Each elected E-board member can serve, at maximum, two full terms. PPSC E-board or committee board members, barring the positions of President and SVP, are authorized to hold the same position twice, so long as they participate in the general body election and are democratically elected for a second term.
