On the first day of classes this fall, the General Studies Alumni Association (GSAA) welcomed new members of the Columbia GS community at an exclusive event held at Mel’s Burger Bar near campus. Over 170 students, recent graduates, and alumni leaders attended the GSAA Welcome Reception, a tradition that began prior to the pandemic and was held this month for the first-time in three years. With refreshments and food catered by Mel’s, the event provided new students with the opportunity to connect directly with the alumni community and to hear about the experiences of former and current GS students during their first week on campus.

Reflecting on the event, Megan Calderazzo ‘20GS, co-chair of the GSAA Recent Alumni Committee said, “The Recent Alumni Committee was thrilled to be able to help welcome GS students back to campus. It was so wonderful to feel the excitement of another school year, joy of being together again, and to make connections between classes of GS students to help ease the transition to Columbia.”

The GSAA organizes alumni speaker panels and networking events throughout the school year, offering current GS students and alumni alike various opportunities to connect with their peers in meaningful ways. The GS alumni network boasts an international scope, and virtual programs are hosted alongside in-person events to fully encompass the global community.
