Giving Day is an annual online fundraising event that encourages alumni, students, parents, and friends of the University to come together to support their favorite schools and programs and help them win prizes in matching funds.
On Giving Day, donors raised an impressive total of $212,949 for GS via 332 individual gifts, a new record, thanks to an all-out effort and late-night encouragement from students on social media. A percentage of this amount was matched by the University Trustees, bringing in an additional $2,257 for student scholarships. GS also won the Random Friend/Parent Challenge, adding $3,000 to the total raised.
This year, GS students and alumni also joined in supporting a novel social media approach to amplify the message about the importance of supporting GS scholarships. Nearly 100 people signed up for a Thunderclap campaign which reached over 140,000 people at 11:30 a.m. on Giving Day, encouraging them to support scholarships for nontraditional students at GS.
The generous donations from alumni, students, parents, and friends of GS and the wider University made the fifth annual Columbia Giving Day a huge success! Together, we raised a total of $14,560,943 for the University, with 14,269 gifts from all around the world. Your gifts will help us change lives that change the world.
