Deogratias “Deo” Niyizonkiza ’01 is the founder and chief executive officer of Village Health Works (VHW), a grassroots nonprofit organization that provides quality, compassionate health care in a dignified environment, currently operating in his rural Burundi hometown.
His life journey has taken him from medical student in Burundi to a struggling immigrant in New York City and a global health practitioner and doctor-in-training. In May 2013, he will receive an honorary degree from Williams College.
