Dean Lisa Rosen-Metsch ‘90GS served as senior author of a new study from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health—with colleagues at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, the University of Chicago, the National Opinion Research Center, and Emory University—published in the journal Addiction.
This study is the first in the nation to examine provider bias regarding substance use disorders in comparison with provider bias against patients with other chronic and often stigmatized conditions, such as depression, HIV, and type II diabetes. The study found a wide variance in stigma across conditions and areas of medicine.
