Located on West 113th Street between Broadway and Riverside Drive, the Center has been the professional home of College and University alumni and development staff since early January. Since April 1, it has also welcomed numerous alumni for both formal events and informal visits. More than 500 alumni, students, and friends have visited to attend an event or take advantage of hospitality.
"Alumni are an integral part of the Columbia community, and it's wonderful that they have a home on campus," says Donna MacPhee '89CC, Columbia Alumni Association (CAA) president and the University's vice president for alumni relations. "By dedicating a place for alumni to connect not only with each other but also with students, faculty, and administrators, the Center will help build our community and strengthen alumni ties to Columbia."
Already, computers and audio-visual equipment are up and running, and the conference room, lounge, courtesy office, and library are also open for business. The library currently displays its first exhibition of College artifacts, lent by the University Archives and Paul Neshamkin '63CC.
Future programming will build on partnerships with various schools and other units such as Columbia University Libraries, the Arts Initiative, Miller Theatre, and University Seminars. It will house the efforts of the CAA, which seeks to strengthen the bonds between Columbians of all University schools, worldwide, through events, programs, and online resources.
