Students are invited to join Dean Rosen-Metsch and members of the GS staff for festive food and refreshments and a dramatic reading of turkey poems submitted by students and staff to welcome the holiday weekend.

The School of General Studies welcomed alumni, students, and families to Baker Field on Saturday, October 19, 2019 to celebrate this year’s Homecoming event.

After several years working in organic agriculture on rural farms and in urban settings, Devon Gingrich’s interest in public health and nutrition manifested into a desire to pursue medicine. She left behind her previous career and enrolled in the Columbia University Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program at GS in the fall of 2019, and hopes to expand the positive impact she was making in farming through pursuit of a medical degree.

Registration for the 2020 MCAT testing year is now open! Students can now register for January-June exam dates. Registration for test dates in July-September will open in February 2020.

On Thursday, October 10, faculty, staff, friends, and family gathered at Columbia’s Faculty House to celebrate the induction of 83 students into the School of General Studies Honor Society.The GS Honor Society was created in 1997 to recognize the exceptional academic achievements of GS students who have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.8 in more than 30 points of academic coursework at Columbia.

Premed 2020) a six-week series of discussions on aspects of the application process and the application year. Jarrell Daniels, a New York native and formerly incarcerated teenager, enrolled at the Columbia University School of General Studies during the fall of 2019, not too long after completing a nearly six-year sentence beginning on Rikers Island. Since his release, Daniels has become a prominent advocate for criminal justice reform through public speaking, research, and mentorship efforts. 

This month, the School of General Studies welcomes alumni, current students, and their family members to join us for Family Days and Homecoming, a weekend of events that provide an opportunity to connect with the entire Columbia University community.
