On Thursday, April 20, the New York Delta Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society announced the names of 53 GS seniors who will be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa during a ceremony at Faculty House next month.

This summer, three GS Students will travel to Taiwan, Jordan, and Morocco to develop their language skills through the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. 

GS students and alumni were recently invited to attend a performance by Paul Taylor Dance Company and a behind-the-scenes talk with Michael Novak '09GS, the company's artistic director, about their first dance season since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Columbia University School of General Studies (GS) is honored to announce that James Harvey Elliott II, a father, returning citizen, and community college transfer student, has been selected as a 2022 Truman Scholar by the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. During the five years he spent incarcerated, Elliott discovered a passion for prison reform, and upon his release, obtained an associate degree and began speaking at prisons and community colleges, bringing awareness to the effects of mass incarceration.

On Wednesday, March 9, faculty, staff, friends, and family gathered at Columbia University's Presidential Ballroom in the Faculty House to celebrate the induction of 101 students into the School of General Studies Honor Society. The GS Honor Society was created in 1997 to recognize the exceptional academic achievements of GS students who have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.8 in more than 30 points of academic coursework at Columbia.
