Position Description

The Office of Admissions and the University Visitors Center are looking for Admissions Ambassadors/Tour Guides to represent students in Columbia’s Dual Degree Programs (Sciences Po, Trinity College Dublin, Tel Aviv University and City University of Hong Kong).

This position offers Dual Degree students the opportunity to meet prospective and incoming students and share their experiences and knowledge with them. Ambassadors/Tour Guides will lead prospective students and their guests on a tour of the historic Morningside campus, sharing personal insights and campus history.

Ambassador and Tour Guide work will be largely in-person. Their focus will be on providing tours and communicating with prospective students via telecounseling, email, and the ZeeMee app, as well as participating in online student panels.

No prior experience is necessary, and we will provide all of the information you will need to give tours.

Position requirement:

  • Must be a current Sciences Po, Trinity, Tel Aviv or City U Dual Degree student in your third or fourth year.
  • Should demonstrate enthusiasm for GS/Dual Degree program and Columbia University and enjoy sharing that passion with prospective and admitted students and campus visitors.
  • Must possess strong customer service skills and be articulate with excellent public speaking and phone communication abilities.
  • Must be dependable, team-oriented, and conscientious in fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Strong memorization skills.
  • An interest in campus history and active involvement in student life is a plus.
  • Must be in good academic standing.

Time Commitment and Scheduling

Requirements

  • Approximately 2-3 hours per week
    • Tours are typically hosted on Friday afternoons and some Sundays in the fall semester.
    • Required to come into the admissions office for 1-2 hours per week for phone appointments and telecounseling.
  • Academic year commitment; longer commitment and summer availability is welcomed.

Training

Training will begin in early September. Comprehensive training is required for all new guides, including:

  • Meeting with Visitor Center and GS Admissions staff
  • Shadowing current tour guides on at least three tours
  • Giving at least one mock tour to current tour guides
  • Other training TBD
