The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) invites students to attend their Virtual Osteopathic Medical School Fair to connect with medical schools across the country.

Students are invited to apply for funding from the Tamer Fund for Social Ventures, which provides seed grants of up to $25,000 to non-profit, for-profit, and hybrid early-stage social and environmental ventures around the world.

This year’s Reunion Weekend drew more than 500 GS alumni and their guests back to campus to reconnect, celebrate, and enjoy several new and exciting events.

Last month, through the student organization Crafting for a Cause: A Wellness Initiative, Postbac Premed Program students continued their outreach to SUNY Downstate Medical Center by decorating school supplies for their pediatric patients, creating personalized pencil cases, folders, and notebooks.

The School of General Studies celebrated the Class of 2019 at the GS Class Day ceremony on Monday, May 20.

On May 17, the New York Delta Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society initiated 49 GS students at its annual Induction Ceremony. GS elects no more than 10 percent of its graduating class to Phi Beta Kappa. 

The graduates of the Columbia University Postbac Premed Program celebrated Class Day on May 17 in Low Memorial Library. Faculty, administrators, fellow students, friends, and family honored the nearly 130 graduates for completing this important step on their journey to medical school and beyond.

On May 14, nearly 1,000 students, alumni, faculty, family, and friends gathered in Roone Arledge Auditorium for a memorial service celebrating the life of former Dean of the School of General Studies Peter J. Awn.

Yesterday evening, the School of General Studies celebrated the academic excellence and outstanding leadership of students of the Class of 2019 at the Academic Prizes and Student Leadership Awards Ceremony.

Sara Ziff, American fashion model, filmmaker, and founding director of the Model Alliance, a nonprofit research, policy, and advocacy organization that advances equal opportunity and sustainable practices in the fashion industry, has been selected to speak at the Columbia University School of General Studies 2019 Class Day Ceremony.

Dean Lisa Rosen-Metsch has announced the featured speakers for the 2019 Columbia University School of General Studies Class Day ceremony and reception, as well as the receipt of the University Medal for Excellence by a GS alumna, and a posthumous honorary degree by Dean Emeritus Peter J. Awn. The Class Day Keynote Speaker will be Sara Ziff '11. The Class of 2019 Valedictorian will be Brittany Summer. The Class of 2019 Salutatorian will be Matthew Hess. 

The School of General Studies (GS) has pledged to donate $10K per year over the next five years to support The Food Pantry at Columbia, an officially-recognized student group that provides access to both perishable and nonperishable food for University students who need it most.

Sumar Frejat's path to GS is both unique and inspiring. Since fleeing Syria in 2010, he has explored the worlds of music, medicine, and academics. Now preparing to apply to medical school, Sumar has continued to take an active role on campus and reflect on his path to GS.

This spring, seven GS students, including three in the Dual BA Program Between Columbia University and Sciences Po, have received competitive scholarships to study foreign languages over the summer.
