This position offers Postbac Premed students the opportunity to meet prospective and incoming students and share their experiences and knowledge with them, leading prospective students and their guests on tours of the historic Morningside Campus, sharing personal insights
Work will be largely in-person, focusing on providing tours and communicating with prospective students via telecounseling, email, and the ZeeMee app, as well as participating in online student panels. Guides will also be required to spend 1 - 2 hours each week in the Office of Admissions to be available for projects as needed.
Position Requirements
- Must be a GS student from the Postbac Premed Program
- Must love GS and Columbia University and want to talk about it with prospective and admitted students and guests
- Must be customer-service oriented and articulate, and have good public speaking and phone skills
- Must be conscientious, reliable, and team-oriented
- Commitment to 1 hour per week of telecounseling in-office
- Good memorization skills
- Be in good academic standing
- Interest in campus history and involvement in student life a plus
Time Commitment and Scheduling
Part-time (5 - 6 hours per month with a minimum of 1 hour per week—availability on Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. a plus) with a commitment of at least one academic year (January 2023 - June 2023) and longer commitment a plus; training to begin ASAP
Training
A comprehensive training is required for all new guides, including:
- Meeting with University Visitor Center and GS Office of Admissions staff
- Shadowing current tour guides on at least three tours
- Attending at least two information sessions with prospective students
- Giving at least one mock tour to GS staff and current tour guides
- Other training TBD
