For the 16th consecutive year, Columbia GS was proud to be a major sponsor of the New York City Veterans Day Parade. On Monday, November 11, GS student veterans, including the U.S. Military Veterans of Columbia University (Milvets), Dean Lisa Rosen-Metsch '90GS, friends, family, and GS administration joined the Veterans Day celebration as the GS float rode 20 blocks down Fifth Avenue.

At the annual Columbia University Military Ball last Friday, Interim President Katrina Armstrong was in attendance to thank the Columbia military community for their contributions to University life. “The experiences you have had, the talents you have acquired, and the values you live align so deeply with what we believe in, with what this institution shall and must stand for: dedicated to diversity of thought and background, to creativity and perseverance, and to community and a commitment to others,” she said. “Thank you for being part of this community.”

U.S. Military Veterans at the School of General Studies

Originally founded in 1947 in large part to serve veterans returning from World War II, the Columbia University School of General Studies (GS) has been educating military veterans for more than 70 years. With more than 400 veteran students currently enrolled—more than three times the rest of the Ivy League combined—GS is the premier destination in higher education serving U.S. military veterans. They bring a wealth of life experience to the classroom, and contribute in a unique way to the diversity and cultural richness of the University.
