The Columbia Journalism School (CJS) announced a new tuition relief initiative that will provide financial support to Columbia GS graduates. For those applying to join the Class of 2026, any GS graduate accepted into a CJS degree program, who applies for aid, will receive scholarships of at least 25% off tuition. The initiative is open to any GS alumni from any year.
Jelani Cobb, Dean and Henry R. Luce Professor of Journalism, stated that the initiative, which is part of the larger CJS2030 Access Initiative, is a commitment to making CJS not only the best but one of the most affordable places to pursue a journalism career. “This is about prioritizing the populations who need it most—nontraditional, local and unique applicants who bring a wealth of diverse experiences to journalism,” he said.
CJS is working towards advancing their efforts to make an Ivy League education in journalism a more accessible pathway for members of the local community. This initiative also forwards GS’s mission to provide nontraditional students with unparalleled academic opportunities.
CJS’s commitment to financial support continues with its Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) that was announced in 2023. Recipients of the GS scholarships are eligible for the LRAP as well.
