GS Receives Record Number of Donations for Students on Columbia Giving Day

Last Wednesday, the worldwide Columbia community came together to raise an unprecedented $695,784 for GS students from hundreds of individual gifts—an incredible 56 percent increase in fundraising compared to last year’s totals, and a more-than-threefold increase over the last five years. These gifts directly support scholarships for current and future students at the School of General Studies.

Thanks to enthusiastic engagement by the GS community, the School also won a number of challenges throughout the day, bringing in additional funding on top of generous gifts from donors. Along with the Future Columbian and Origami challenges, GS came in first place among its peer schools in the Overall Dollar Challenge.

Giving Day is an annual online fundraising event that encourages alumni, students, parents, and friends of the University to come together to support schools and programs and help them win prizes in matching funds. October 28 marked Columbia University's ninth annual Giving Day.

Across the University, Columbians changed lives that change the world, raising $24,161,991 through 19,173 gifts for the causes, schools, and programs that support the University's students and further its global mission of research, teaching, patient care, and partnerships to solve the pressing challenges of our time, from climate change to social justice, and more.
