Apply to be a Fall 2022 Orientation Leader

Orientation Leader Responsibilities & Time Commitment:

• Orientation Leaders will oversee a cohort of Incoming Students (OL Group).
  • Send new students an Introduction e-mail, and highlight meetings through the week. (E-mail drafts will be shared with you).

• Orientation Leaders will be assigned to a Crew of OL's with a Crew Captain as a mentor.

• There will be 2 optional Orientation Leader Socials — one in mid-July and one in mid-August.

• Orientation Leaders are required to attend all of the following programs:

  • Orientation Leader Training: Thursday, August 25, 1 - 5 p.m. & Friday, August 26, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Orientation Week: Monday, August 29 - Sunday, September 4
        - Mandatory Programs on Monday, August 29, 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. & Tuesday, August 30, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
        - Speed Meeting & Pizza Party on Tuesday, August 30, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
        - Joint Social Program on Thursday, September 1, 6 - 11 p.m.
        - In addition to the events above, OL's are required to sign up for at least 4 events during the week, 
           including 1 evening or weekend programs.

Position Description 

• Serve as a representative of the Columbia University School of General Studies.
• Support GS staff to aid in the execution of Orientation events.
• Foster a welcoming community by sharing experiences about GS and Columbia with incoming students.
• Serve as a mandatory reporter for instances of sexual violence during the week of Orientation.
• Work with a diverse team of student leaders.

Position Requirements 

• Must be an enrolled General Studies student.
• Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
