56 Affiliates Named as 2024-25 Fellows
Congratulations to the GS students and alumni who have received fellowships this academic year!
Over the course of the 2024-25 academic year, 56 Columbia GSers have received 63 awards through various fellowship programs. Among them are the seventh GS Schwarzman Scholar and the first Columbia University Future Nobel Laureate Scholar.
Lochlan Zhang ‘25GS, one of 150 scholars selected for the Schwarzmann Scholarship’s tenth cohort, will have the opportunity to attend a one-year, fully-funded master’s degree program in global affairs at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
A recent graduate of the Dual BA with Trinity College Dublin, Zhang is looking forward to immersive research opportunities and developing a nuanced perspective on China’s rich culture and history. His key interests include the history of twentieth-century wars, international law, human rights, and postcolonial studies. He plans to attend law school after completing his time at Schwarzman.
Community college transfer student Hunter Doradea ‘26GS is one of 11 scholars from around the world chosen as a Future Nobel Laureate Scholar this year. He joined other students on a fully-funded experience with the chance to learn from global thought leaders in Stockholm, Sweden in December.
Doradea was chosen because of his innovative AI project that uses artificial intelligence to help war-torn countries build and preserve their infrastructure. The project’s idea comes from his mother’s own escape from the civil war in her home country of El Salvador.
As these two stories illustrate, fellowships are fantastic opportunities for students and alumni to receive funding for personal and professional projects that extend beyond Morningside Heights. Fellowships grant students access to new knowledge and help them to better engage with the world around them. We congratulate this year’s fellowship winners, who embody the hard work, dedication, and well-deserved success that is a hallmark of the GS Community.
