Gulnazik Bakhramova ‘26GS, Ana Carolina Vieira Semeghini '26GS, Gezi Fang ‘26GS, Hamzah Ouedraogo ‘28GS, and Melina Rozehkhan ‘26GS are among 21 Columbia undergraduates selected for the Millennium Fellowship, a United Nations facilitated semester-long program where students participate in leadership training and community engagement to develop social impact projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Semighini is a senior majoring in sustainable development with a concentration in business management. She was recognized for her project “Roots of Tomorrow: Reconnecting Youth with Nature.” The project aims to educate students in the Southeast region of Brazil about local flora and fauna and increase awareness on the importance of protecting their environment.
“Being part of the Millennium Fellowship is not only an opportunity to advance our projects but also to learn more about leadership, project management, and social impact. What I found most inspiring about the program is being able to connect with other students on campus and around the globe who are also committed to generating a positive impact in the world. Through this fellowship, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of how to develop and implement meaningful projects that are relevant and tailored to local communities, driving results that generate a positive and lasting impact,” Semighini said.
The Millennium Fellowship is presented by the United Nations Academic Impact and Millennium Campus Network. Read more about the Millennium Fellowship.
