Undergraduate Announcements

Today, Dean Rosen-Metsch sent the following message to students regarding recent decisions announced by President Bollinger about the extension of Spring Break, the grading of spring-semester courses, and University Commencement.

The ARC team is offering an adapted version of the course, University Studies for Continuing Students, focused on supporting student success in remote instruction.

The GS Academic Resource Center (ARC) remains available to support all GS undergraduate and Postbac premed students.

Earlier today, Dean Rosen-Metsch sent the following message to GS students to provide an update about additional steps that must be made to reduce the number of people on campus and in Columbia housing, as well as ongoing administrative support for GS students.

On Friday, March 13, the GS Office of Educational Financing sent the following message to GS students regarding financial assistance available to help with costs related to travel, storage, and moving logistics for students leaving Columbia housing as a result of classes being conducted online for the remainder of the spring semester.

Today, Dean Rosen-Metsch sent the following message to GS students regarding Columbia Residential housing, as well as resources and support available in light of the developing situation with COVID-19.

Due to the suspension of classes, the ARC is currently closed and is offering remote appointments. Peer Advisors are currently not offering in-person appointments, however, students are encouraged to email the team for support.

Earlier today, Dean Rosen-Metsch sent the following message to students regarding updates at GS as a result of the developing situation with COVID-19.

The Departments of Religion at Columbia and Barnard are now welcoming submissions for the first annual Peter Awn Undergraduate Paper Prize. This prize of $500 will be given to the best paper written by an undergraduate for any course or seminar in Religion in the year prior, and honors Awn’s inspired teaching and his dedication to promoting and celebrating creative inquiry. In addition to serving as Dean of GS for twenty years, Awn was an active professor of Religion, an erudite scholar of Islam and Islamic mysticism, and a brilliant teacher and mentor.

Yesterday, the below message regarding COVID-19 and potential upcoming travel plans was sent to all undergraduate students by Marlyn Delva, Dean of Students at the School of General Studies, Cristen Kromm, Dean of Undergraduate Student Life for Columbia College and Columbia Engineering, and Shannon Marquez, Dean of Undergraduate Global Engagement.

Lavender Graduation is a ceremony that celebrates our graduating undergraduate LGBTQ and allied students from Barnard College, Columbia College, Columbia Engineering, and the School of General Studies. The sponsors of Lavender Graduation are looking for volunteers to be a part of the committee.
