April 28, 2015

A successful model embellishing the leading magazine covers such as Elle and Vogue Italia, Helm was photographed for the January 1983 cover of Vogue by the legendary Richard Avedon. However, following a decision to leave modeling at age 31, Helm enrolled in Columbia's Postbac Premed program, where she discovered interest in psychiatry and specifically her calling in treating psychological pain. Lauren Helm is currently working with a psychiatric team at a hospital in New York, while she runs a successful private practice that specializes in eating disorders.

Helm's tale of reinvention through career change was featured by O Magazine alongside other inspiring stories of a prosecutor turned pastor, a US Navy satellite electronics technician who became a successful chocolatier, an attorney turned singer-songwriter, and a hedge fund analyst who dared to follow her dream to become a rum distiller.

The O Magazine article and Postbac alumna Lauren Helm's story serve as an inspiring reminder that it is never too late to pursue your calling by embarking on a new journey.
