Upcoming Session Topics

October 15: Med School Applications Broken Down

This week, we will take a close look at the different components that make up the application and talk about how they (should) fit together and complement/reinforce each other. We will discuss how to best take advantage of the different sections of the application as a non-traditional student to ensure that medical schools have the most compelling picture possible when they evaluate your application.

October 8: Finding the Right School for You

This week, discussions will center around how to distinguish one medical school from the next, how to determine which different characteristics are important to you, and some of the resources that are available to you for learning more about different medical schools and what they have to offer.

October 1: What Are Medical School Admissions Committees Looking For?

This week, the conversation will center around trying to understand what medical school admissions committees are looking for. Using articles and reports from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and elsewhere, discussion topics will cover what different aspects of the application process look like from the perspective of someone who sits on an admissions committee at a U.S. medical school.

September 24: Identifying Stakeholders in the Medical School Application Process

This week's topic transitions out of academic support and into the process of applying to medical schools more broadly. Specifically, this discussion will identify the different stakeholders involved in the application process and strategize best practices for working with them, including:

  • Assembling your team[s] of support
  • Conducting yourself professional in different settings
  • What your applications will be evaluated on
  • Action items to focus on as you move through the process
September 17: Prepping for Your First Round of Midterms

Learn what to expect, how best to prepare, and test taking strategies. Check in with the academic journal topics introduced during orientation and discover how to continue using them over time, particularly in relation to exams.
