Virtual Event: A Conversation with Postbac Premed Alumni

Current students are invited to an intimate conversation with graduates of the Columbia School of General Studies Postbac Premed Program. Guests will hear from both an experienced practicing physician as well as a recent graduate who is just beginning the journey into medical school. Enjoy Q&A and the chance to hear about the challenges and highlights of a career in healthcare.

This event is open to all, and those who identify as members of underrepresented groups in medicine are especially encouraged to attend.

Dr. Linda Burke ‘82GS, ‘77SW

Dr. Linda Burke is a board-certified OB-GYN physician with three decades of clinical expertise, an author of a prenatal book, The Smart Mother’s Guide to a Better Pregnancy, blogger, Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCF College of Medicine, and subject expert for HRSA. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she has lived in Florida for over 20 years and is the mother of two college-aged sons. Dr. Burke is a graduate of the City College of New York, Columbia’s School of Social Work and School of General Studies, and Boston University School of Medicine. She received a post-residency certificate in Clinical Informatics from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Burke completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology from Harlem Hospital in New York City.  She is passionate about preventing medical mistakes related to pregnant women and their unborn babies and reducing healthcare disparities.

 

Chelsea Faison ‘18GS, ‘20SPS

Chelsea Faison completed her Post Baccalaureate Premed Certificate in 2018. Prior to matriculating at Columbia, she was a Chemistry Tutor and recent graduate of University at Albany where she double majored in Human Biology and Art History, with a minor in Medical Anthropology. Her volunteer activities include the Food Pantry at Columbia, New York Cares, and as a Research Associate at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. Her leadership activities include serving on the executive board of the Premedical Association as a former president of Columbia Society for Medical Humanities. Chelsea earned her master’s degree in bioethics from the Columbia School of Professional Studies and worked as a medical assistant until matriculating into medical school. She is currently a first year medical school student at Howard University College of Medicine.
