GS Academic Affairs and the Department of Biological Sciences are co-hosting an information session on the renowned Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program.

This program offers undergraduate students a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on, biology-related laboratory research at Columbia University.

The fellowship is competitive, with awards based on academic performance, recommendations, and a personal meeting with the laboratory director. Eligible applicants include current juniors, sophomores, and first-year students in Columbia College, The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, or the School of General Studies. No prior research experience or biology major is required to apply.

Participants are expected to work full-time for the duration of the program; therefore, SURF participation is not compatible with attending summer classes, holding another job, or volunteering.

The SURF program runs for 10 weeks during the summer, and participants receive a $5,000 stipend. For more information, please visit the program website.

Registration is required. A Zoom link for the information session will be emailed to all registrants 1–2 hours before the start time.
