Vonni Guthrie

Post the Vietnam War in 1977, Vonni was thrown over a cliff as an infant in Laos during her family’s escape attempt. After 3 years in a Thailand refugee camp, she was emaciated and on the brink of death when her family was sponsored by the families of St. Pius X Parish in Plainview, NY. Vonni, her two sisters and mother arrived in America with only the clothes on their backs.

No stranger to adversity or perseverance, Vonni has overcome challenges others would deem impossible – a teen mother turned Ivy League graduate; stroke survivor x 2, from tragic murder of her Godfather to become a voice for change; and from a shy immigrant child turned outspoken community leader. Referred to as “superwoman” by her Columbia University benefactor, Vonni equips her messages to incorporate the resilience of the human spirit and hope for the future. She is a powerful and dynamic speaker able to stir change through her riveting stories and profound lessons.
