The Training and Research Microsurgery Laboratory in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University is seeking students to apply for a 90-day visitor/observer position in the lab.
About the Lab: The world-renowned laboratory offers courses throughout the year in basic and advanced microvascular procedures to surgeons from 12 specialties and 70 countries. These courses emphasize vascular anastomoses, interpositional vein grafts, and nerve repairs using rat models. The laboratory also works with clinicians from NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center (NYPH/CUIMC) to conduct clinically relevant research projects.
Students will observe the course's teaching process, learn about microvascular surgery and the handling and preparation of animals for surgery, and assist with daily lab operations. Students will have opportunities to interact with visiting microsurgery students and learn about different surgical specialties and their lifestyles. Throughout the observership, students will also gain exposure to medical terminology and the fundamentals of surgery.
