Position Description
Columbia Student Medical Outreach (CoSMO) is a medical student-run free clinic serving uninsured and underserved members of the Northern Manhattan community. The clinic is currently seeking passionate and committed volunteers to join its Social Services Team.
This role provides an opportunity to work directly with patients, address social determinants of health, and support individuals by connecting them with community resources. Volunteers will help provide individualized support to patients and contribute to a collaborative, interdisciplinary clinic environment focused on improving patient care beyond the exam room.
Responsibilities include:
- Connecting patients with community and social service resources
- Providing individualized support to address social determinants of health
- Assisting patients with navigating available services and support programs
- Collaborating with the clinic’s interdisciplinary care team
- Supporting patient advocacy efforts and sustainable care solutions
Position Requirements
- Ability to commit to required training and volunteer shifts
- Professionalism and timely communication with the clinic team
- Completion of HIPAA training
- Participation in the process to create a CUMC email account
Time Commitment
At least two clinic shifts per month
Clinic shifts occur on:
- Thursdays: 4:30 PM – 8:30 PM
- Saturdays: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
