Position Description
The CUIMC Emergency Medicine Research Intern Program is seeking interns to join their volunteer program which provides basic clinical research experience for pre-health professionals through hands-on training and exposes pre-health professionals to an acute clinical care setting in either the Adult or Pediatric Emergency Department (ED).

Responsibilities include:

  • Attending study-related training sessions and workshops held by supervising Clinical Research Coordinators (RCs)
  • Mastering study recruitment and enrollment procedures for active research study protocols
  • Mastering the processes of properly obtaining informed consent and practicing good clinical practice (GCP) in an acute care setting
  • Screening, pre-consenting, and enrolling potentially eligible patients with supervising RC
  • Educating patients on the benefits and risks of participating in clinical research
  • Effectively communicating with research and clinical staff
  • Ensuring that compliance, patient confidentiality, and ethical obligations are met
  • Interacting with Principal Investigators (PIs) and other departments by attending program-exclusive lectures, health fairs, training, workshops, etc.
  • Interacting with clinical staff and observe patient care with clinical staff while on shift in Pediatric ED or Adult ED

Position Requirements

  • Must be a current post-baccalaureate pre-medical and/or pre-health student

Time Commitment
Part-time, two 5-hour shifts per week with an 8-hour overnight shift every 6 months. There is a one-year commitment to the program.
