Position Description
The NYU Grossman School of Medicine/Bellevue Hospital is seeking a volunteer research assistant to assist a physician with research projects taking place at the Department of Pediatrics.

Projects involve improving communication with parents whose children are admitted to the hospital. These projects include examining parent understanding of instructions they receive when their children are discharged home from the hospital, as well as physician and parent communication during family-centered rounds. They focus on improving the way we communicate with patients and families who have limited health literacy and those who prefer to read and speak in languages other than English.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Enrolling families
  • Performing parent interviews and administration of assessments
  • Observing physician and parent communication during family-centered rounds
  • Scoring questionnaires and assessments
  • Entering data
  • Preparing materials for assessments and organizing study materials
  • Completing literature reviews

Position Requirements

  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or prior research experience are pluses
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Received COVID-19 and flu vaccines to go through their medical clearance process

Time Commitment
Part-time (8 hours per week), with a minimum commitment of 12 months. Shifts are generally Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 to 5 p.m., or 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
