Position Description:
The Advanced Heart Failure Team at Columbia University Medical Center is seeking volunteer research assistants to support clinical studies examining the impact of social and psychological factors on patient outcomes—particularly for individuals undergoing evaluation or treatment with Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs). Volunteers will assist in a dry lab setting, working under the direction of Dr. Paolo Colombo and Dr. Melana Yuzefpolskaya. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in cardiology, health disparities, and clinical research.
Responsibilities include:

Conducting retrospective chart reviews using electronic medical records

Collecting and managing data on psychosocial, clinical, and socioeconomic variables

Participating in weekly team meetings to review study progress

Contributing to study design, manuscript preparation, or conference abstracts based on performance and interest
Position Requirements:

Reliable and detail-oriented

Interest in cardiology, medicine, health equity, or clinical research

Prior research experience is helpful but not required
Time Commitment:

Minimum 1 day per week (~6–8 hours)
