Project STAY

Position Description
Project STAY (Services to Assist Youth), which provides free, compassionate, comprehensive, and inclusive health care services to New York’s youth, is seeking volunteer health educators. Project STAY educators are trained to conduct STI and HIV testing at nontraditional venues in the community as well as brief risk assessments and referrals to care. They have the opportunity to shadow at a young adult clinic and receive support for medical school applications. The program is affiliated with the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health and New York Presbyterian.

Responsibilities include:

  • This is an opportunity to be creative, improve on health literacy skills and engage with underserved populations connecting them to sexual health care.
  • Creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth to access free health care comfortably

Position Requirements 

  • Keen interest in working with young people, in particular LGBTQ youth
  • Experience working with social media with this population
  • Experience working with Canva and other design tools
  • Spanish speaking a plus

Time Commitment
Part-time, 5-10 hours per week, with a one-year commitment. Hours are flexible and in accordance with when events are scheduled.

Compensation
Hourly rate allowed by Columbia University
