Position Description
The Geliebter Lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking undergraduate Clinical Research Assistants to support research focused on obesity and obesity-related eating disorders. Current research includes a neuroimaging study examining the neurobiological mechanisms associated with changes in food and alcohol intake following bariatric surgery. This volunteer opportunity provides exposure to participant recruitment, data analysis, neuroimaging, and clinical research with bariatric surgery patients.
Responsibilities include:
- Recruiting participants for clinical research studies
- Calling and screening prospective research participants
- Assisting with research data analysis
- Volunteering at study visits with bariatric surgery patients
- Assisting patients during fMRI procedures and blood draws
- Supporting ongoing research activities within the lab
Position Requirements
- Strong interpersonal and writing skills
- Responsible, dependable, and willing to learn
- Interest in conducting primary research
- Ability to work both in person and remotely
- Spanish fluency preferred
- Background in psychology/psychiatry, biology, or public health preferred, but students from all majors are encouraged to apply
Time Commitment
10 hours per week: 5 hours in person and 5 hours remotely; commitment required throughout Summer 2026 and the 2026–27 academic year
