Multicultural Affairs Community Graduations

Multicultural Affairs works in conjunction with a range of student organizations, alumni shared interest groups and administrative offices to organize Multicultural Graduation Celebrations, which provide a more intimate setting for students who self-identify in a variety of ways. These events invite community members to reflect on personal growth and community experiences that have impacted their time as students through to graduation.

These ceremonies are co-sponsored by GS Student Life, Barnard Student Life, and the CC/SEAS Office of Multicultural Affairs. All undergraduate students are invited to participate in these celebrations.

Registration for graduating seniors is now open for our multicultural graduation celebrations!

Complementing Class Days and Commencement, these celebrations offer graduates intimate spaces to incorporate meaningful cultural traditions, reflect on shared experiences and personal growth, and be in community with others who have uplifted them during their time as students. Participation is open to all Columbia College, Columbia Engineering, General Studies, and Barnard College graduating seniors.

Register by March 23 for Regalia Accessories/ Gifts

We have many generous alumni, student groups, and University partners who help personalize the experience by giving graduates at these events stoles, symbolic pins, tassels, and/or other gifts.

The deadline to register in order to receive your community-specific regalia accessory is Wednesday, March 23, at 11:59 p.m.

Graduates registering after this date may participate in the celebrations, but receipt of their regalia accessory will be determined on availability and is not guaranteed.

Nominate fellow seniors for Multicultural Affairs Graduation Cords, which are given to graduating seniors in Columbia College, Columbia Engineering, and the School of General Studies who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to inclusion, global diversity, social justice, and multiculturalism through Multicultural Affairs programs, campus leadership, activism, community involvement, academic endeavors, and/or personal dedication.

Nominate by Friday, March 25, 11:59 p.m.

In the coming weeks, look out for opportunities to nominate peers (or yourself!) to be senior speakers at our various graduation events or to be acknowledged for their contributions to the community.

More information about registration for family, friends, alumni, faculty, staff, and current students of other class years will be shared in the coming weeks.
