Full-time, Research Technician, Weill Cornell Medicine, Arifuzzaman Laboratory

The Arifuzzaman Laboratory at Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and responsible team player to serve as a full-time Research Technician. This opportunity is ideal for an applicant interested in applying to medical or graduate school in the next two years.

The primary focus of the Arifuzzaman Lab is to uncover the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which diet and microbiota regulate the immune system. The Technician will work closely with Dr. Arifuzzaman and post-doctoral fellows in an exciting academic environment studying immunology and the microbiome using both mouse models and human samples. The Technician will help to maintain the mouse colony, perform experiments, and support general lab maintenance.

Primary responsibilities include mouse experiments, immune cell analysis by flow cytometry and microscopy, molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA isolation and RT-qPCR, basic microbiology techniques, tissue and cell culture, mouse husbandry, breeding, and genotyping. General lab duties include ordering lab supplies, maintaining and restocking inventory, and general lab organization and maintenance. The ideal candidate for this exciting, new laboratory will have a passion for research and have previous laboratory experience, have strong interpersonal skills, and a desire to contribute to the organization of a dynamic laboratory environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Biology or other related STEM field (or equivalent experience).
  • Prior experience in mouse handling and maintenance and understanding of mouse genetics.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, RT-qPCR
  • Ability to keep accurate records of work performed.
  • Able to work independently and as a team member.
  • Able to communicate effectively and professionally.
