Position Description
Weill Cornell Medicine, Jill Roberts Institute for Research in IBD, Longman Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented and responsible team player to serve as a research technician. The primary focus of their lab is the regulation of the intestinal immune system by the microbiota and how they can understand these connections to improve intestinal disease.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with fellows and students to perform experiments
  • Partnering with the Live Cell Bank to process human intestinal samples
  • Performing basic mouse husbandry, such as setting up mating cages, pup checks, weaning mouse pups, ear tagging, isolating genomic DNA and running PCR for genotyping, maintaining accurate records of animal breeding, health, weaning etc
  • Using electronic mouse colony management software
  • Ordering, stocking and general lab organization and maintenance
  • Understanding of experimental techniques to support projects in the lab

Position Requirements 

  • One year of prior experience in animal handling and maintenance in a research lab.
  • B.S. in Biology or other related STEM field (or equivalent experience) 
  • Understanding of mouse genetics, housing, husbandry and maintenance of genetically modified mouse lines
  • Experience with molecular biology such as PCR
  • Willing to learn new techniques with general instruction
  • Able to take initiative, prioritize tasks, use good judgment, and monitor completion of assigned duties
  • Ability to keep accurate records of work performed is essential
  • Good analytical, organizational, communication and computer skills
