Position Description
Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC, Department of Medicine, is seeking to hire a Research Assistant. The Research Assistant is an integral member of the research team responsible for a variety tasks essential to the conduct of clinical research. This position involves a great deal of patient contact as well as interaction with physicians of various specialties in the hospital. Opportunities for mentorship, authorship, and presentation at academic conferences are available for the right candidate.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Identifying, screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent from patients for participation in research studies
  • Administering questionnaires and interviewing in-person, electronically, by mail, or over phone
  • Coordinating patient visits; ensuring protocol compliance
  • Preparing, submitting, maintaining study-related materials/approvals for Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Scheduling and setting agendas for study team meetings; sending notes afterwards (emphasis on action items)
  • Regularly reporting on progress towards project milestones
  • Organizing and maintaining all files and documents related to specific projects (electronic and physical files as applicable)
  • Designing/maintaining databases (i.e. REDCap), data collection forms, source documents, IRB documents, etc.
  • Collecting, processing, storing, shipping blood/tissue/microbiome specimens (phlebotomy training provided as applicable)
  • Preparing and submitting abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations to disseminate study results/progress (includes proofing and editing, collection of financial disclosures
  • Assisting in grant documents/submissions
  • Updating curriculum vitae for PI's and co-investigators as applicable
  • Creating/maintaining study specific instruction manuals and administrative training documents
  • Providing training to new-hire replacements upon leaving position

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Clinical research experience a plus
  • Facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Endnote
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Ability to use tact, discretion, and sound judgement when dealing with confidential information
  • Ability to bear independent responsibility to ensure data accuracy and timely follow-through of study procedures

Time Commitment
Full-time, minimum two-year commitment

Compensation
$43K per year
