Position Description
The UC Davis Translational Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience (TCAN) Lab is seeking four research assistants to serve as junior specialists for several newly funded and ongoing grants. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Using prior knowledge of mental health conditions and previous training in diagnostic assessments to complete phone evaluations with potential research participants and family members. Phone evaluations will examine mental health concerns and other psychosocial factors in order to determine if individual may be eligible for research.
  • Conducting in-person ratings of symptomatology for research purposes using structured interviews and under the supervision of faculty member.
  • Using knowledge of mental health conditions and available treatment options to provide referrals to consumers who are not eligible for research study.
  • Consenting individuals to research study
  • Coordinating the scheduling of research appointments with other junior specialists on the project and track completion of all research appointments for the study.
  • Assigning appropriate tasks and provide mentorship to research assistants and volunteers
  • Attending weekly meetings with clinic staff, track consensus diagnosis and reconcile research data with ongoing clinical developments
  • Coordinating advertising and recruitment of study participants using multiple methods (e.g., paper flyering, electronic postings).
  • Ensuring an adequate supply of study materials (e.g., blood tubes, latex gloves, etc.)
  • Conducting behavioral assessments with research participants including computerized and paper-and-pencil tests of multiple aspects of cognitive functioning.
  • Conducting MRI scan sessions with all participants
  • Maintaining databases of all study data, including demographic, symptom, and cognitive data.
  • Maintaining organized records for all participants in locked filing cabinets
  • Using knowledge of computer programming to perform data analysis of collected MRI and behavioral data.
  • Maintaining HIPAA and Consent documents for IRB, including adhering to required privacy laws.
  • Maintaining accurate enrollment counts.
  • Calculating quarterly enrollment counts for submission to funding sources

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, psychobiology, neuroscience, computer science or a related field

Time Commitment
Full-time, with a one- or two-year commitment.
