Position Title

Technician / Lab Manager

Position Description

The Reya Lab at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated and organized Technician/Lab Manager to support daily laboratory operations and contribute to ongoing research projects.

The lab focuses on cancer and stem cell biology, with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms underlying pancreatic cancer initiation, progression, and therapy resistance. Research approaches include mouse models, in vitro 2D and organoid cell culture systems, live imaging and microscopy workflows, and computational models.

The Reya Lab is a collaborative research environment where technicians have opportunities to contribute to multiple projects and pursue independent research. Many former technicians have gone on to highly competitive graduate and medical programs.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Assisting with lab management, including maintaining supply inventories, preparing stock reagents, and supporting lab budgeting
  2. Ensuring compliance with animal care and safety regulations
  3. Maintaining mouse colonies (genotyping, breeding, mating, and tissue dissections)
  4. Performing cell culture using cell lines and primary cells
  5. Supporting lab members with ongoing research projects
  6. Supervising undergraduate research assistants
  7. Conducting an independent research project
  8. Performing additional lab-related duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, engineering, chemistry, physics, math, computer science, or a related field (or equivalent training and experience)

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques
  2. Experience handling or working with small animals
  3. At least one year of related research experience

Additional Skills:

  1. Strong analytical and organizational skills
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  3. Ability to maintain accurate and organized research records
