Position Description
The Jha Laboratory at the Barrow Neurological Institute is seeking motivated and curious recent college graduates (BS, Class of 2026 or earlier) to join Dr. Ruchira Jha’s Acute Brain Injury Research Lab. Dr. Jha serves as Division Chief of Neurocritical Care, and her lab conducts translational research connecting bench discoveries to patient care.
A major focus of this role includes participation in the BRAIN Project (Barrow Research Repository of Acute Injury in Neurology and Neurosurgery), a nationwide longitudinal biobank studying traumatic brain injury, stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and intracranial hemorrhage. Work in this lab contributes to identifying biomarkers and therapeutic targets with real clinical impact.
This is an excellent opportunity for students planning gap years before MD, MD-PhD, or PhD programs.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting translational research on acute brain injury
- Working with patient-derived biological samples
- Contributing to biobank and longitudinal research efforts
- Assisting with data and sample management related to neurological injury research
- Collaborating with a clinical and research team in neurocritical care
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (Class of 2026 or earlier)
- Strong interest in neuroscience, medicine, or translational research
- Motivated, curious, and dependable
Time Commitment
- Full-time
- Two-year commitment required
- Designed for students taking two gap years before graduate or medical training
