Position Description
The Academic Associate Program is a one-year, but preferably a two-year, full-time, paid program in the Northwell Health’s Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, located only 30 minutes from Manhattan. This position is designed for post-undergraduates who are interested in a career in healthcare and want exposure to clinical research, quality improvement, and/or hospital administration. Cohen Children’s Medical Center’s Pediatric Emergency Department is the busiest pediatric ED and the busiest pediatric trauma center in the tristate area.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Participating in all components of projects in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine
  • Assisting faculty with ongoing research projects
  • Working collaboratively with one or more mentors in designing new projects of mutual interest
  • Learning to perform chart reviews, administer in-person and online surveys, and analyze primary secondary data with the guidance of faculty
  • Assisting in quality and performance improvement projects
  • Coordinating the Division's yearly Pediatric Emergency Medicine Symposium
  • Providing administrative research support for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship
  • Drafting and editing research study manuscripts, abstracts and presentations
  • Helping to submit annual presentations to the national meetings of the American Association of Pediatrics, Pediatric Academic Societies and the American College of Emergency Physicians, in addition to various other national, regional, and local platforms
  • Opportunities to participate in medical education that takes place in the division, including the Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship conference and various clinical educational simulations
  • Opportunities to shadow clinicians in the pediatric emergency department
