Position Description
The Arifuzzaman Lab at Weill Cornell Medicine is hiring a full-time Research Technician. This role is ideal for a gap year candidate planning to apply to medical or graduate school within the next two years.
The lab studies how diet and the microbiome regulate the immune system at the cellular and molecular level. The Research Technician will work closely with Dr. Arifuzzaman and postdoctoral fellows using both mouse models and human samples in a dynamic immunology and microbiome research environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with mouse experiments and colony maintenance
- Immune cell analysis using flow cytometry and microscopy
- Performing molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA isolation, RT-qPCR)
- Conducting basic microbiology techniques
- Tissue and cell culture work
- Mouse husbandry, breeding, and genotyping
- Ordering lab supplies and maintaining inventory
- General lab organization and maintenance
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Prior bench research experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to keep accurate research records
- Ability to plan and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Minimum two-year commitment required
