Childcare and Family Support

Childcare

As part of its dedication to quality childcare services for Columbia staff and students, Columbia helps support several local day care centers. This support takes a variety of forms, ranging from scholarships provided through Columbia Community Service to the provision of volunteers and rent-free space. Each of these schools is run by either a parents' board or a board of trustees, and teachers are certified by the Board of Education.

Additionally, each year Columbia invites representatives of University-affiliated childcare centers and other local facilities to share information and answer questions from parents living in the University's neighboring communities.

To view a list of these programs, please view the Child Care & Schooling section of the Columbia University Office of Work/Life website.

You may also contact the Columbia University Family Support Network (CUFSN) for assistance with locating childcare and family resources by emailing [email protected].

Breastfeeding Support

Columbia University provides lactation rooms to support nursing mothers returning to work, school, or campus. Each room offers a clean, secure, and private space for women who need to express breast milk during their time on campus. A list of lactation room locations is available on the Office of Work/Life website.

Family Support Network

The Columbia University Family Support Network (CUFSN) is a student-led University-wide organization focused on advocating for improved resources and policies to support members of the Columbia community with families. For more information, including a list of childcare and family resources, and upcoming events hosted by the organization, please email [email protected].

Office of Work/Life

While the Office of Work/Life works primarily to support faculty, researchers, administration, and staff, its website contains information that may be useful to students who are parents.
