Part-time, Volunteer, Research Assistant, Histology/Immunohistochemistry

Position Description
NYU Langone Health Center for Biospecimen Research & Development is seeking a research intern. The CBRD Histology and Immunohistochemistry Laboratory serves as a full suite, translational anatomic pathology and immunohistochemistry laboratory that use state of the art techniques and instruments to develop biomarker assays for translational research as well as provide basic anatomic pathology services. The lab functions immunohistochemical antibody repository with a catalog of nearly 2000 different antibodies. The laboratory optimizes and validates commercial or proprietary antibodies for chromogenic or immunofluorescent, immunohistochemistry/immunocytochemistry of fresh, frozen, fixed human cells and tissues, as well as carries out general histology processing and analysis.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Learning basic histology techniques (tissue fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and TMA production)
  • Performing antibody database data entry and maintenance
  • Collaborating with physicians, scientists, project managers, and other laboratory technicians on internal research projects
  • Fulfilling general laboratory duties such as instrument routine cleaning and maintenance, making bulk lab reagents, and doing weekly laboratory inventories
  • Maintaining quality control and quality assurance records, update standard operating procedures, etc. as required by policies and regulations

Position Requirements

  • Must have excellent general laboratory skills and be capable of using laboratory equipment safely and accurately
  • Must have computer skills and the ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Already have taken Immunology, Molecular Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology, a plus
  • Applicants must meet NYU’s requirements to be eligible for a volunteer research position. Additional information regarding NYU requirements will be provided following review of applicants
