Neuropathology Brain Bank & Research CoRE, Mount Sinai Pathology Department
Position Description
Dr. John Crary is seeking students to volunteer as assistants in the Neuropathology Brain Bank & Research CoRE at Mount Sinai. As a part of the Neuropathology Research Division Training Program (NeRD-TP), students will learn neuroanatomy and how to diagnose brain diseases. Students will also gain exposure to challenges associated with treating, diagnosing, and studying brain diseases. Students will have the opportunity to graduate from this program after one academic year and become paid assistant prosectors.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting physicians/prosectors and assistant prosectors in brain dissection and processing of brain tissue (1 weekend per month required on-call)
- Interfacing with neuropathologists and research scientists
- Assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Brain Bank
- Presenting on a neuropathology-related topic at the end of the academic year
Position Requirements
- Strong academic performance (3.3 GPA minimum, MUST be listed on CV)
- Must be a current postbac, Master’s, or non-matriculated student interested in the medical field
- Some exposure to neuroscience (i.e. undergraduate major), psychology, or related discipline
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Intent to work in healthcare or matriculate into a healthcare program (M.D., Ph.D., N.P., P.A., etc.)
Time Commitment
Part-time, commitment to 2 days per week, 10 hours total. 5 hours one day per week (~12 - 5 pm), 5 hours on Fridays (10:00-3 pm), and on call 1 weekend per month. Hours Mon.-Thurs. are flexible; Friday is mandatory
