Position Description
The NYS Psychiatric Institute / Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a research technician. This position is an excellent opportunity to have direct patient contact, work alongside experienced doctors, residents, medical students, nurses, social workers, clinical psychologists and research assistants, and gain exposure to all facets of psychiatric care and clinical research.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting EKGs within the three inpatient units of the hospital and the outpatient resident clinic.
  • Processing samples from the inpatient and outpatient clinics to be sent to the off-site clinical laboratory at the Nathan Kline Institute and organize lab results.  
  • Carrying a pager to respond to urgent EKG requests and critical/stat lab results that must be brought to the attention of the treating physician
  • Performing some administrative lab duties (e.g. keeping lab room stocked, maintaining cleanliness of centrifuges and EKG machines, and of the biological specimens’ room)

Position Requirements

  • BA/BS degree
  • Interest in psychiatry and mental health
  • Certified in phlebotomy or willing to learn
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus

Time Commitment
Part-time, 30 hours per week
