Vaccine Safety and Confidence-Building Working Group at the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy

Position Description
The Vaccine Safety and Confidence-Building Working Group (VacSafe WG) is seeking a research assistant to help with data visualization, desktop research, and editorial and documentation tasks.  VacSafe WG supports projects that generate, scale, and analyze actively-collected vaccine safety surveillance and pharmaco-vigilance data in Africa. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining an interactive Vaccines in Africa map using Python, Pandas, and Jupyter notebooks 
  • Collecting publicly available COVID and vaccination news/data in support of the Vaccines in Africa Brief and pilot project needs
  • Composing, editing, and publishing WG documents including monthly Vaccines in Africa briefs, pilot project documentation, and reporting

Position Requirements

  • Full-time enrolled student
  • Proficiency with frontend data visualization, GeoJSON, GeoPandas, and other geographic/mapping data formats and Python packages, HoloViews, hvplot, and bokeh a plus
  • Background or familiarity with either public health and/or international politics a plus

Time Commitment
Part-time (ten to fifteen hours per week)

$20 per hour
