Position Description
The Hong Laboratory is searching for a data science research specialist to join their team. The Hong lab is part of both the Department of Radiation Oncology and the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute and the UCSF-UC Berkeley Joint Program in Computational Precision Health.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing informatics research to develop computational tools and analyses related to personalized oncology care
  • Managing data
  • Implementing and programming computational tools including machine learning/deep learning algorithms
  • Participating in lab meetings
  • Conducting data analyses and preparing for presentations at lab meeting and journal club

Position Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computer science, data science, computational biology, mathematics, or a related quantitative/scientific discipline (by time of hire)
  • Strong programming skills, with a preference for experience in Python, R, and/or SQL
  • Experience with data science, machine learning, and/or natural language processing a plus
  • Experience developing experimental and analytical plans a plus
  • Prior research experience a plus
