Dr. Baohong Zhao
Position Description
Dr. Zhao's research laboratory at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Weill Cornell Medical College is seeking a Postbac Research Fellow. The fellow will participate in basic biomedical research projects in osteoclast differentiation, functional regulation of bone marrow stem/progenitor cells, bone biology/inflammation (osteoimmunology) and autoimmune diseases.
Dr. Zhao's laboratory uses cutting-edge molecular and cell biology approaches as well as genetic mouse models to study osteoclast differentiation and define signaling pathways and epigenetic mechanisms important for regulating inflammatory bone destruction, which is a major cause of morbidity and disability in many arthritic diseases.
The position provides relevant training and experience for students intending to apply to medical schools, MD/PhD programs, or graduate schools.
Dr. Zhao’s lab has an excellent record for competent young postbacs/research assistants to run projects, receive national research awards, and publish papers as a first author. Four postbacs/ research assistants from Dr. Zhao's lab have published their first-authored papers in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, eLife, or The Journal of Immunology in the past eight years, and two of them won Young Investigator Awards from the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, bioinformatics, computational science, or related fields.
- Two or more years of experience in related laboratory research
- Strong experience in cellular and molecular techniques
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Must be consistent in research, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in R language is a plus
Time Commitment
Full-time, with a two year commitment
